Field Fire on Wade Farm
More than 100 acres burned and one firefighter was injured as flames engulfed a cornfield Thursday afternoon, September 20, 2007. Smoke was visible for miles, and the tremendous heat caused a vast difference in temperature between the surface air and the air aloft, generating a number of significant dust devils.
Firefighters from Glendale Fire Department, with mutual assistance from Elizabethtown, Central Hardin, Sonora, Stephensburg, Upton, Valley Creek, and White Mills Fire Departments, and the Division of Forestry, worked for over three hours to contain the blaze at the Bob Wade farm on Gaither Station Road.
Hardin County EMS assisted firefighters at the scene, and the American Red Cross provided food and drinks for the fire crews.
