Home Depot Fire / Child Safety Day
The annual Home Depot Fire / Child Safety Day was held on Saturday, October 2 2010. More than 800 children attended the four-hour event. Parents helped their children assemble wooden kits into bird houses and other items. Children enjoyed a bouncy house, an inflatable slide, face painting, and games. Elizabethtown, Radcliff, Central Hardin, Rineyville, Valley Creek, and Vine Grove Fire Departments brought apparatus. Children toured the fire trucks and had the opportunity to try on fire gear. Hardin County EMS, Air Methods Kentucky, Elizabethtown Police Department, Hardin County Sheriff's Office, Kentucky State Police, and the U.S. Army also hosted activities. Kentucky Bloodhound Search & Rescue brought trained search dogs and puppies for children and adults to meet. The Hardin County Fire Chiefs Association hosted a drawing to give away two "fire dogs" - life-sized plush Dalmatians with collars, tags, and adoption certificates. Many businesses and nonprofit organizations from the local community and the surrounding county brought mascots and hosted booths, games, food, and activities.
