LifeNet Landing Zone Class
LifeNet Air Medical Services brought "Landing Zone Safety and Scene Team Training" to Rineyville Fire Department Saturday, December 18, 2004. Paramedic Deke Bell presented an in-depth program acquainting firefighters with important details and critical safety guideline that should be followed when preparing a landing zone and loading a patient aboard the helicopter. EMT Farm Safety Training
EMT students participated in a Rural & Agricultural Response class on Saturday, December 4, 2004, at the Bowen Training Center in Elizabethtown. Simulations included rescuing a teenaged girl who was out for a spin on her 4-wheeler when she made a blind turn around the side of the barn and collided with a tractor, impaling herself on a bale spike; rescuing a victim from under the bucket of a front loader; freeing two victims who were pinned when their tractor flipped over; and extricating and treating four victims of a 4-wheeler collision. Some scenarios used mannequins for victims, while others used live actors, but the equipment used in the farm safety class, from tractors to 4-wheelers, was real, and the simulations were based on accidents that have happened in Kentucky. Structure Fire on Upton Melrose Road
Upton Fire Department was dispatched at 10:23 a.m. November 26, 2004, to a structure fire at 1458 Upton Melrose Road. They arrived to find the single-family residence fully involved. Sonora Fire Department provided mutual aid. No injuries were reported.
Structure Fire at Plantation Park
Central Hardin Fire Department responded to a structure fire Thursday evening, November 25, 2004, at 48 Third Street. The single-family residence was fifty percent involved upon their arrival. Firefighters worked for three hours to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported. Central Hardin was dispatched to this address again when the fire rekindled Friday morning. Arson Investigator Chad Marsh also responded to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
Mobile Home Fire
On Saturday morning, November 13, 2004, LaRue County Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Spencer School Road. A shed attached to a doublewide trailer had caught fire, and the blaze had spread into the home. Buffalo Fire Department and Valley Creek Fire Department provided mutual aid. Firefighters rescued a dog from the burning trailer. No injuries were reported.
Hay and Barn Fire
LaRue County Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Old E'town Road at 9:40 p.m. Monday, September 27, 2004. They arrived to find a barn filled with burning hay. Firefighters used tractors to pull wagons loaded with burning hay out of the barn. Five wagonloads of hay were destroyed, while three tractors, a car, and the barn were damaged. Buffalo Fire Department provided mutual aid. Two LaRue County Junior Firefighters in training were also at the scene, as were the LaRue County Ambulance Service and the LaRue County Sheriff. The fire was attributed to spontaneous combustion.
Structure Fire on Valley Creek Spur
At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15, 2004, Valley Creek Fire Department responded to a structure fire at a single-family residence that was undergoing renovation. Central Hardin Fire Department provided mutual aid.
Structure Fire on North Pointe Drive
Elizabethtown Fire Department responded to a structure fire on North Pointe Drive at 10:07 p.m. Sunday, August 15, 2004. The fire destroyed the garage, while smoke ruined the house. Though two people were at home at the time of the fire, no injuries were reported. The blaze was allegedly set with gasoline by a 50-year-old man who was acquainted with the homeowner. Elizabethtown resident Walter Noland has been arrested and charged with first-degree arson.
Vehicle Fire on College Street
Elizabethtown Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire at 12:52 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2004. No injuries were reported. Elizabethtown Police Department was also at the scene.
MVA w/Entrapment on Hodgenville Road
Central Hardin Fire Department and Elizabethtown Fire Rescue responded to an MVA on Hodgenville Road at 11:27 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2004. A full-size Chevrolet pickup flipped upside down into a ditch. One of the passengers was promptly transported by the Hardin County Ambulance Service to Hardin Memorial Hospital. The second passenger was transported to Louisville aboard StatCare immediately upon extrication. Kentucky State Police officers were also at the scene.
Structure Fire on Plainview Road
Stephensburg Fire Department responded to a fire in a singe-family residence at 10:32 a.m. Thursday, May 27, 2004. White Mills and West 84 Fire Departments provided mutual aid. Hardin County Ambulance Service was also at the scene. No injuries were reported.
Structure Fire on Siberia Road
Sonora Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Siberia Road at 9:18 a.m. Monday, May 3, 2004. The fire was contained to the attic and the rear portion of the single-family residence. Glendale, Upton, and LaRue County Fire Departments provided mutual aid. Hardin County Ambulance Service was also at the scene. No injuries were reported.
Fire Safety Presentation
Firefighters Aaron Brown, Dylan Turner, Jon Vandermolen, Travis Warren, and Tom Williams of the Central Hardin Fire Department conducted a fire safety presentation at a Cub Scout meeting at Lincoln Trail Elementary School Thursday evening, April 22, 2004. The Scouts toured Central Engine One, learned about firefighting tools and turnout gear, and were taught the basics of fire safety.
Shed Fire
At 12:10 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2004, Elizabethtown Fire Department responded to a structure fire on East Nalls Road. A storage shed was fully involved. Cause of the fire is under investigation. Elizabethtown Police Department and Hardin County Ambulance Service were also at the scene.
Warehouse Fire
On Friday, April 2, 2004, at 2:34 p.m. Central Hardin Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Bardstown Road. They arrived to find the Southeastern Contracting warehouse fully involved. Firefighters battled the blaze for more than two hours. The warehouse was a total loss, but firefighters successfully protected a trailer adjacent to the burning structure. Valley Creek and Boston Fire Departments provided mutual aid. Hardin County Ambulance Service was also at the scene. No injuries were reported. Cause of the fire is under investigation.

Central Hardin Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Tunnel Hill Church Road at 5 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2004. The deck as well as a room at the rear of the single family residence was heavily involved. Elizabethtown Fire Department provided mutual aid. Valley Creek Fire Department was on standby. Hardin County Ambulance Service was also at the scene. No injuries were reported.
Springfield Road Mobile Home Fire
Valley Creek Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 1:12 a.m. Monday, March 1, 2004. They arrived to find a mobile home fully involved. A Hardin County Sheriff's unit was also at the scene. No injuries were reported. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
Murrieltown Road Field Fire
Sonora Fire Department responded to a field and woods fire at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 29, 2004. Approximately forty acres burned. Glendale and Upton Fire Departments provided mutual aid. The Division of Forestry was also at the scene.
Centerpoint Road Field Fire
White Mills Fire Department responded to a field and woods fire at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2004. Glendale, Kentucky 86, Sonora and Stephensburg Fire Departments provided mutual aid. Workers with the Division of Forestry cut a fire break in order to help contain the blaze.
Bacon Creek Road Field Fire
Glendale Fire Department responded to a field fire at 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 27, 2004. The field was filled with debris, including a pile of more than one hundred tires. Approximately four acres burned. Central Hardin, Stephensburg and Valley Creek Fire Departments provided mutual aid. A Hardin County Sheriff's unit was also at the scene.
Mobile Home Fire
Central Hardin Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Lower Colesburg Road at 9:40 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 2004. They arrived to find an abandoned trailer fully involved. No injuries were reported. A Hardin County Sheriff's unit was also at the scene.
Apparatus Driver Training
On Sunday, February 22, 2004, firefighters participated in driver training at the Bowen Training Center in Elizabethtown. An American LaFrance representative demonstrated a 93-foot ladder tower which was also used in driver training.
Tophill Terrace Structure Fire
Central Hardin Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 4:50 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2004. A mattress had caught fire in the basement of the residence. No injuries were reported.
Hardin/Meade County Training Burn
Meade County Fire Department, Radcliff Fire Department and Central Hardin Fire Department firefighters participated in structure fire training on Rock Castle Road in Meade County on Saturday, January 10, 2004. A series of training burns were conducted throughout the house before the structure was allowed to burn to the ground Saturday afternoon.
MVA on I-65 Overpass at Hawkins Drive
The Elizabethtown Fire Department was dispatched at 5:40 a.m. Friday, January 9, 2004, to an MVA on the I-65 overpass at Hawkins Drive. A tractor-trailer had jackknifed in the northbound lane and broken through the guard rail. It came to rest with the cab dangling off the bridge. The driver jumped from the cab before Fire Rescue arrived. Recovery of the semi took more than two hours. Two wreckers were used to lift the truck back onto the bridge. Elizabethtown Police Department, Kentucky Motor Vehicle Enforcement and Hardin County Ambulance Service were also at the scene. The truck driver suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Hardin Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Barn Fire on Wonderland Cavern Road Stephensburg Fire Department responded to a fully involved barn fire at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2004. White Mills Fire Department provided mutual aid. Hardin County Sheriff's units and Hardin County Ambulance Service were also at the scene. American Red Cross provided assistance to a man who had been living in a two-room apartment built within the barn. No injuries were reported. The barn was a total loss. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
